Five things to try, a minute each. After that, the notch is yours.
1
Point at the notch.
Everything is under it: what’s playing, your day, the clipboard, your batteries and the weather. Move the pointer away, and it closes.
2
Play a song.
In Music, Spotify or a browser tab. The artwork shows beside the notch, its level on the other side. Rest the pointer there for a small player.
3
Type a timer.
Press ⌥Space and type “tea 4 min”. Or “lunch with Emma tomorrow 1pm”, and it goes on your calendar.
4
Drag a file to the top.
Take any file to the top of the screen, and the notch opens into the Shelf, Transform, iCloud Drive and AirDrop. Let go on one.
5
Hold ⌥⇧Space.
Your actions circle the pointer: capture, record, snap a window, the clipboard. Let go on one.
Asked for a permission?
Setup asks for three things, each for what it makes possible: Calendar & Weather for your day; Camera & Microphone for the mirror and for turning speech into text; Screen & Controls for volume and brightness, calls, moving windows and capture. Skip any, and everything else keeps working.
Make it yours
Hold any card on Home to move it, or to add others. Open Settings from the gear in the notch or the menu bar to choose what’s announced.
